Objectives

The change towards electromobility and the associated parallel production of conventional, hybrid and purely electrically powered vehicles creates major challenges for OEMs. In the field of assembly, one of the core competencies of the automotive manufacturers, new methods of planning and controlling assembly systems as well as technology solutions to enable agile assembly of electric vehicles, must be tested in order to be able to react quickly and cost-effectively to changes in this transition period.

The overall vision of the AIMFREE research project is to develop an agile, freely linked assembly environment by breaking up the established rigid chain of assembly stations. In this way, the time and financial expenditure for the integration of electric vehicles into existing assembly lines or reconfiguration of an assembly environment due to a change in the sales market shall be minimized. The technical design, initial or integration planning, replanning and control of the assembly system are taken into account.
